What to plant now – April

April is a great to time to put composts on your beds and for any that are not in use sow in some green manures. Cucumber, courgette, Pumpkins, chard, kale and flowers can all be sown in April.  A lot of people will sow carrots and parsnips but our top tip is to leave sowing until the end of the month. There is always  the chance of a late frost that could harm your young crop. Make sure to cover your carrots with fleece, ensuring the edges are buried will help prevent carrot root fly destroying your crop. Try undersowing white clover with your cabbages and other brassicas, recent studies have suggested that companion planting with clover reduced the amount of cabbage fly eggs that were laid.
