By supporting the work of Irish Seed Savers you are helping to conserve the rare and heritage varieties that are best suited to our Irish climate and soil. We have over 600 varieties of vegetable, herb and flower seed and 75 heritage apple tree varieties. In order to keep these varieties alive and available to everyone we rely on the support of the public. It is vital that Ireland have their own sustainable food source, due to modern farming practices it is estimated that over 80% of fruit and vegetable varieties have been lost[1]. It is our aim to create greater awareness of the importance of conserving our unique food and environmental heritage.

But what does all of this mean? What we do is research, gather, protect and make available heirloom varieties of seeds, as well as curate Ireland’s heritage apple tree collection. We make available the apple tree varieties and vegetable, herb and flower seeds for you, the grower to sow, and reap the many benefits of not only growing your own food, but contributing to the protection of Ireland’s food heritage and ultimately our food security. The orchards on our Co Clare site help the Irish State meet its EU obligations in the area of conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources in food and agriculture.

Sign-up before May 12th to receive a free gift from us,

along with the usual benefits to supporters.
