Question?
My mother asked me to get in touch with you regarding an apple tree that she has in her garden – she thinks its called ‘white transparent’ It would have been planted by her father approx. 70 years ago. The apples are pale green in colour and have what looks like a seam running up the side of the apple – the flesh is almost pure white and they are a nice eating apple – ripening in September. The tree is getting a quite old and isn’t in the best location, so Mam is wondering if this is a variety that may be of interest to your programme before anything happens to the tree.
Answer:
this variety is in our collection – your right it is a lovely apple – so we wouldn’t need to propagate it for ourselves. However if ye like the apple and would like to have a new tree then ye could purchase a new white transparent for us, Or to continue exactly with the tree ye have, we have a graft request service whereby if ye send us some cuttings (scion wood) from the tree we can propagate new trees for ye. The charge for graft request is €30 for a minimum of two trees. If you are interested then please contact our office in November.
