Question?
our goat has successfully stripped the bark off two of our best apple trees, not entirely. Are they beyond help? What can we do? Is anyone looking for a very friendly puck goat?
Answer:
if the bark has been striped around the whole of the tree, the top of the tree will die off definetely; if there is the slightest bit of bark left joining the top to the bottom it will recover eventually.
So if it’s completely ringed its a bad job if not should be ok. This happened to my trees with the wild goats that roam around and most of them recovered even though it looked like the bark was completely gone; the cambion or pith was slightly hanging on in there; so after careful pruning over the next couple of years they’re back to good health; it did make them fruit better being under stress.
My advice with a young puck goat is to marinate it, (yum! good eating) and for an older one make a drum!! No matter how friendly they are (in my opinion), they are omnipresent and annoying.
